Job Summary
We are looking for individual to join our client's team as Certified Medical Coder focusing on outpatient and emergency department (ED) coding. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely coding of medical records in compliance with federal, payor, and coding guidelines, supporting efficient billing and reimbursement processes.
Job Description
- Medical coding in an acute care setting; must possess proficient computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, ICD 9 CM, CPT 4, Encoder)
- Apply knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and coding guidelines to assign appropriate codes.
- Review medical records for completeness, clarity, and accuracy to support coding decisions.
- Research and resolve coding-related issues, including payer-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, billing teams, and other stakeholders to clarify documentation and ensure compliance.
- Utilize coding software and applications such as 3M/HDS Encoder for accurate code assignment.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to junior coders when required.
- Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, payer policies, and federal billing regulations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in outpatient and ED settings.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4, and coding compliance guidelines.
- Proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and coding software (3M/HDS).
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required.
- Solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- High School Diploma/GED, AHIMA, RHIA or RHIT and/or CCP, CCS.
- Shift: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
- This position requires weekend schedule. Once fully trained the position will be remote
- Up to $38.00 per hour depending on experience
