A&M’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Services (PEPI) practice, with offices throughout the US, focuses on serving upper middle market and large cap private equity firms who have engaged A&M to help improve operating results at their portfolio companies. The companies we assess are in the upper middle market 50 million to 1 billion plus range.

• Lead or support work streams focused on the R&D and Product functions during technology performance improvement, growth strategy or M&A engagements
• Evaluate product roadmaps, engineering processes, and innovation pipelines to determine alignment with business strategy
• Assess proprietary platform and software architecture for readiness, scalability limitations, and security posture
• Conduct system design interviews with R&D leadership, including CTOs, CPOs, CIOs, and engineering leadership to understand trade‑offs and identify red flags in a company’s R&D or product strategy, security posture, or scalability
• Engage during pre‑acquisition diligence phase to evaluate product prioritization process, enterprise architecture, software development lifecycle processes, headcount and non‑headcount investments and organizational structures
• Assess cloud infrastructure and deployment models (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, hybrid), including cost/performance optimization opportunities
• Complete Product Parity assessments and develop recommended product integration strategy for M&A activity for competitor companies
• Day‑1 and 100‑day planning and execution – driving performance improvements across critical areas such as product roadmap, SDLC processes, cloud and on‑prem strategy development, business intelligence and reporting integration, and customer and channel management. This includes tracking progress against Day 1 and Day 100 objectives and adjusting strategies or personnel as needed
• Merger‑integration and carve‑out execution, managing critical path work streams to ensure seamless separation or integration

• 14–20+ years in roles such as Product Manager, Group Product Manager, Director of Product, or R&D Strategy/Operations Lead preferably in mid to large software, semiconductor company
• Exposure to private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, or related transaction/merger integration is a bonus
• Proven experience in building or evaluating product roadmaps, prioritizing features, and aligning engineering spend with strategic goals. Experience contributing to or leading R&D or product assessments, whether internally (e.g., roadmap rationalization, OKR planning) or externally (e.g., vendor evaluations, M&A integration planning)
