Join one of the most beloved names in children’s publishing to help tell stories through data. We’re seeking a Business Intelligence Developer who will design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and data models that provide critical insights into our clients publishing, sales, marketing, and digital engagement operations. This role bridges the creative and analytical worlds — empowering teams with data-driven stories that support our mission of inspiring children through reading.

This position is hybrid in NYC. Please only local candidates apply. Not available for C2C. This is a temporary position with potential to be converted to a FTE.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and data models to support business functions across publishing, sales, and marketing.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and translate business goals into actionable reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to design optimized data structures and define ETL requirements for analytical use.
  • Contribute to the Power BI community of practice by sharing best practices, documentation, and process improvements.
  • Support self-service BI users through training materials, documentation, and internal communication.
  • Monitor Power BI Server capacity and proactively identify potential performance risks or optimization opportunities.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data product development roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, and window functions for dataset manipulation.
  • Expertise in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and dashboard design.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with both technical and business teams and translate data insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Familiarity with Python, Power BI APIs, or Adobe Analytics.
  • Experience in the publishing, media, or education industries.
  • Understanding of data storytelling — making insights accessible and engaging for non-technical audiences.
