The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education, and exhibition.
Job Duties- Write original, engaging, and compelling copy for complex principal, individual giving, and corporate stewardship reports; complex proposals for principal and individual giving teams; templated and custom acknowledgment letters; and other advancement‑related communications as needed.
- Proofread advancement‑related communications, incorporate feedback, and ensure accuracy.
- Gather relevant information from colleagues across the museum to inform the preparation of written advancement materials, funding opportunities, and budgets.
- Critically engage with collected material, identify gaps, and produce clear, comprehensive written products, building and maintaining cross‑departmental relationships.
- Provide project management support, including managing the Donor Relations Reporting Calendar and a portfolio of reports, proposals, and outreach with minimal oversight.
- Staff periodic advancement events in evenings or on weekends as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, History, English, or another relevant field.
- Three years of related experience with progressive responsibility.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including the ability to shift style to fit purpose, audience, voice, and tone.
- Ability to describe complex and nuanced information using clear, compelling, and original language and present concise rationales for philanthropy.
- Exceptional organizational, planning, project‑management, and time‑management skills, with the ability to take initiative and prioritize.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or a similar database.
- Familiarity with budgets.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to move about the museum campus.
- Must be able to frequently reposition oneself/body to accomplish job duties.
The expected salary range for the Manager, Donor Relations is $65,000 to $72,000 per year. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
