Position

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America (SHI NA) has an exciting new opportunity for a creative, motivated, and thoughtful individual to elevate the voice of the Institute and the ways it engages stakeholders and communicates about the most pressing issues affecting Jewish life with a broad spectrum of audiences though its marketing and communications work.

The Vice President of Strategic Communications and Engagement will guide the Institute's strategy for how to use its public voice and brand to amplify the impact of our ideas, engage stakeholders through telling the story of SHI/SHI NA, and support the educational goals of our programs. This leader will manage a team responsible for implementation of all communications functions (including PR, email, and social channels), and marketing for SHI NA and its programs.

We are looking for a highly strategic innovator who is conversant at a leadership level about the issues, challenges, and opportunities of a multifaceted complex organization; experienced in guiding an organization through narrative definition process, and with experience and credibility to gain buy-in and implement successfully.

Reporting directly to the CEO, and based in our NY Office four days per week, this person will have an important role to play in shaping the story of the Institute.

Responsibilities

Management
  • Supervise a diverse national communications team toward individual and collaborative excellence;
  • Strategically increase impact of all marketing strategies, including growing social media platform presence, managing our website, measure and analyze success and impact of all marketing interventions, data and systems;
  • Work collaboratively with leadership of Hartman Digital, Development, and Program teams toward collective success.
Programmatic Marketing and Communications
  • Create and implement strategy to support SHI NA's programmatic goals by supervising the production of and developing a broad range of marketing materials and channels including collateral, ad strategy, email, social media, and You Tube in collaboration with program and development team leadership;
  • Partner with program directors to devise a strategy to recruit participants, promote educational tools, and engage stakeholders with Hartman content.
Telling the Story of the Institute and Public Relations
  • Develop and implement strategy to develop and expand SHI NA brand value, including print and digital collateral as needed, in partnership with development;
  • Monitor and manage brand and reputation (including crisis management);
  • Supervise our annual report and drive our end of year campaign in partnership with the Development department;
  • Ensure that SHI NA's public programs tell the story of the Institute by partnering with colleagues in program, development, and research, in both North America and Israel.
Amplifying our Ideas
  • Increase impact of SHI thought leadership through developing marketing, dissemination, and evaluation strategies for our public curricula, digital products, and written media;
  • Develop and sustain relationships and partnerships with journalists and media outlets to strategically disseminate Hartman ideas, and to work with specialists and consultants as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum 20 years of experience in strategy and strategic marketing, including senior leadership roles in complex organizations
