SECURITY

OPERATION

The Carnegie Hall security team currently consists of a Director of Security, Manager of Security, two Security Supervisors, three Desk Officers and out‑sourced Security guards. The overall responsibility is to develop and execute a multi‑layered security strategy to safeguard the landmark building and its occupants including artists, audiences, teachers, students, and staff. The overriding goal is a balanced approach to risk assessment with an emphasis on mitigating vulnerabilities through deterrence and de‑escalation as well as incidence response strategies in support of a diverse environment, creative workforce, educational activities, and customer‑friendly entertainment venue.

MANAGER

OF SECURITY

The Manager reports to the Director of Security, tasked with the overall management of the security operation. The Manager oversees the Security Supervisors and Desk Officers and helps execute the security plan, effectively second‑in‑command, delegated overall supervisory responsibility when the Director is not onsite. S/he must possess strong managerial, organizational, and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi‑task; work independently as well as part of a team, fostering collegial relationships within and outside the organization, engendering respect and trust;

understand, appreciate, and practice inclusive leadership, foundational to creating a secure environment for all.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Working in partnership with the Director of Security, the Manager responsibilities and duties may include but not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the security guard staffing companies, not only help ensure minimum training required for security guard certification but also develop institution‑specific training with an emphasis on skills‑based education related to fire and life safety, access control, incident de‑escalation, crowd management, and customer service.
  • Provide assistance with logistics of security personnel, ensuring day‑to‑day, line management of guards, not only to make certain they are following institutional policies, procedures, and standards, but also to motivate them to be alert, engaged, and otherwise effective in the field.
  • Ensure good record keeping including security detail per event, timesheets, payroll, invoicing, incident reports, and other documentation.
  • Liaise with liability insurance carrier regarding loss prevention and incident reports.
  • Duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic understanding of security technology including access control, fire alarm, and weapons detection systems

EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
  • Law enforcement or military command experience
  • Minimum of five years management experience
  • Fire Life Safety Director certification eligible
