Staff Software Engineer - Backend (Platform) chwell is the modern real estate listings platform built for agents to search smarter, collaborate better, and close deals faster. About The Role:

As a Staff Full Stack Engineer on the platform team, you’ll architect the next generation of our platform. By designing the foundational platform for our product services, you’ll help accelerate our expansion across the real estate industry. Using your frontend and architecture expertise, you’ll create modular, performant product services and UIs that will scale as we integrate with hundreds of client systems in the future.

You will collaborate closely with the VP of Engineering, Joe Kondel, and other senior leaders on Product, Data, and QA. We work from our SoHo NYC office 3 days a week.

• Architect and develop the next-generation data platform. Design a system for high-throughput data and event-driven services.
• Design scalable APIs and services. Implement authentication/authorization solutions as well as core service domains like geospatial and search.
• Build and maintain reliable and performant infrastructure. Utilize Kubernetes, Cloud services, and observability best practices.
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver strategic technical initiatives. Collaborate with Engineering, Product and Data to build a unified data platform.

• 10+ years of software development experience, primarily backend, with comfort in frontend technologies.
• Expertise in distributed systems and designing scalable services on Kubernetes.
• Strong proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP) and message passing architectures (Kafka, Redpanda, gRPC/protobufs).
• Advanced backend service and API development skills using Python, Golang, Rust, or Ruby.
• Deep understanding of modularity, scalability, and separation of concerns.
• Experience with frontend technologies, including Typescript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS, and React.
• Experience designing solutions using relational, columnar, document, and vector databases.
• Ability to integrate observability and performance monitoring into system design.
• Ability to work across service, database, and infrastructure boundaries to address design and performance challenges.

To provide transparency, we share base salary ranges for all US-based postings. Final offers are determined by skills, knowledge, and experience. The compensation for this position is $200-235K base salary + equity + benefits.
