Job Summary

The Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU Healthcare is looking for a Senior Accountant
. The Senior Accountant is a hybrid position, with the expectation that they will work from the Long Island City headquarters two to three days a week. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily accounting operations to support the Financial functions for the department. You will be responsible for compiling and preparing reports for internal audits, resolving any discrepancies, and analyzing budget reports (annually, quarterly and monthly).

This position reports to the Controller.

What You’ll Do
  • Full Accounting responsibilities
  • Assist with Audit related schedules and analysis, and maintain Quarterly reports of all audit related supports
  • Work on Internal Audit Control
  • Reconciliation: monthly general ledger analysis, bank account reconciliations, maintaining all aspects of Certify (Expense reimbursement module) and restricted fund balance analysis
  • Pension and 401K remittance
  • Coordinate with the Benefits Department on discrepancies, intercompany analysis and reconciliation.
  • Assist Controller in preparing annual budget, month-end analysis and quarterly closing
  • Balance sheet account analysis
  • Accounting for Affiliate Organizations:
    Yearly Payroll allocations schedule and invoicing
  • Assist the Controller in researching and preparing data for financial reports, audits, tax returns, and other required filings
  • Assist Deputy Finance Manager with multi-state payroll operations, including yearly and monthly salary increases and retro pay if applicable as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Contribute to and support the development and implementation of departmental and interdepartmental programs and services.
  • Support other staff in various functions during the year and as requested - Accounting System implementation.
What Makes a Great Candidate
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous accounting experience (Not-for-profit or labor union experience preferred)
  • Proficiency with ADP and ability to Process Payroll
  • Experience with Quickbooks & or Other accounting software
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and writing)
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to develop new methods of efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to problem solve issues when they arise and proactively get in front of them
  • Flexible working outside normal business hours; ability to work long hours during key moments throughout the year.
  • Proficiency with Google products such as Gmail and Google drive docs, ppt (advanced knowledge with sheets) and Microsoft Suite (advanced knowledge of Excel)
  • Must be fully vaccinated for Covid in accordance with CDC guidelines, subject to any laws of the state in which the applicant resides.
CIR Offers

Competitive starting salary ($90,000 to $115,000) commensurate with experience.
