SummaryThe Junior Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations with a primary focus on invoicing agency, government, and commercial clients. This role ensures accurate and timely invoices, payment of subcontractors, and compliance with contract and project requirements. The Junior Accountant will work closely with project managers, operations, and accounting leadership to maintain precise financial records, track accounts receivable, and ensure all commitments are properly documented and stored in Sage.
A secondary focus will be on supporting Accounts Payable processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate invoices for agency, government, and commercial clients in accordance with contract terms, schedules of values, budgets, and project milestones.
- Ensure that executed contracts, change orders, project budgets, commitments, and schedules of values are properly stored in Sage and accurately reflected in billing.
- Use HH2 for time tracking and ensure labor costs are accurately reflected in project cost reports.
- Upload invoices to client portals and procurement systems such as Coupa, ensuring compliance with submission requirements and deadlines.
- Track and follow up on outstanding receivables, proactively communicating with clients and internal teams to resolve issues.
- Generate reports including A/R, Billing, Contract Status, and Job Cost.
- Assist project teams with questions or needs related to the projects.
- Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments in accordance with company policies.
- Review expense reimbursements for accuracy, completeness, and proper approvals.
- Obtain approval signature on all AP invoices from authorized approver.
- Provide documentation for external auditor requests.
- Implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies.
- Perform other related accounting/financial duties as requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction management, engineering, architecture, or professional services (industry experience a plus).
- Solid knowledge around billing and collection practices.
- Skilled in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas).
- Demonstrates analytical mindset, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Must possess the ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.
- High degree of accuracy, strong attention to detail but also able to look at the big picture.
- Knowledge of Sage CRE 300 and HH2 preferred but not required.
- Work to be performed in the office. Consideration of working remote will be based on performance and company needs.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
