Director of Investment Accounting

Life Insurance | New York, NY | Hybrid (3 Days in Office)

An established life insurance organization is seeking a Director of Investment Accounting to lead its traditional investment accounting function following the planned retirement of a long-standing team member.

The role focuses on fixed income, bonds and Schedule D assets, overseeing investment accounting, statutory and GAAP reporting, technical accounting and process improvement.

You will lead a team of 4-5 professionals while partnering with Investment Management and Finance to enhance systems, streamline reporting and explore opportunities in AI and automation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an insurance investment accounting professional to take ownership of a key function, develop talent and drive meaningful change.

• Investment Accounting:
  Oversee accounting and reporting for traditional investments, particularly fixed income, bonds and Schedule D assets.
• Technical Reporting:
  Lead statutory and GAAP accounting, technical research, valuation and investment-related disclosures.
• Financial Close & Controls:
  Oversee monthly and quarterly close processes, reconciliations and investment data integrity.
• Regulatory Reporting:
  Manage investment-related statutory schedules and supporting information for regulatory capital requirements.
• Systems & Transformation:
  Improve investment accounting systems and processes, including potential transitions involving ePAM, Aladdin and Clearwater.
• Process Improvement:
  Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and leverage AI and automation.
• Team Leadership:
  Manage and develop a team of 4-5 professionals, promoting collaboration, cross-training and accountability.
• Stakeholder Management:
  Partner with Investment Management, Finance, Tax, Treasury, FP&A and external auditors.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Significant investment accounting experience, ideally within life insurance, annuities or the broader insurance sector.
• Strong technical knowledge of fixed income, bonds and Schedule D reporting.
• Solid understanding of statutory and GAAP investment accounting and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Experience with investment accounting platforms such as ePAM, Aladdin, Clearwater or comparable systems; implementation or migration experience is a plus.
• Previous team leadership or mentoring experience, with a collaborative and hands-on management style.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• An interest in technology, process improvement and emerging AI applications.

Working model:
Hybrid, three days per week in the office.

Level: Director.

Compensation:
Competitive base salary and incentive compensation, commensurate with experience.
