Controller – Healthcare / ABA Therapy

Location:

Remote initially; expected to transition to hybrid Geographic Requirement:
New York or New Jersey area Compensation: $175,000+, based on experience

• A growing, multi-entity ABA therapy organization is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, treasury, and internal controls.
• The Controller will lead the monthly close, ensure the accuracy of the company’s financial records, oversee the accounting team, and work closely with leadership and the company’s billing, revenue cycle, collections, payroll, and operations teams.
• Healthcare accounting experience is required. Experience with ABA therapy, behavioral health, insurance billing, or another provider-based healthcare organization is strongly preferred.

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll accounting, treasury, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations.
• Manage healthcare revenue accounting, accounts receivable adjustments, insurance recoupments, refunds, and patient responsibility balances.
• Oversee the reconciliation of billing and operational systems to Quick Books.
• Manage intercompany accounting and reporting across multiple legal entities.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash reporting, and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Maintain and improve accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and financial processes.
• Coordinate tax filings, compliance matters, insurance renewals, and payroll tax notices with outside advisors.
• Manage and develop accounting staff while partnering with billing, revenue cycle, and collections teams.
• Support leadership with financial analysis and operational reporting.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Significant experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Director, or similar accounting leader.
• Healthcare accounting experience is required.
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial reporting, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with healthcare revenue cycle accounting, insurance payments, contractual adjustments, recoupments, or patient balances.
• Experience managing accounting for multiple entities.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with detailed financial data.
• Ability to manage staff and work effectively with senior leadership and operational teams.

• Experience with ABA therapy, behavioral health, or another insurance-based healthcare provider.
• Experience with Quick Books Desktop Enterprise.
• Experience improving accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
