Department Description:
Founded in 1970, the Africana and Latinx Studies Department (ALS) integrates and maintains the intersections of Black and Latinx Studies, focusing on issues facing people of color nationally and globally.
This role supports the Department Chair interacting frequently with faculty, students, and the public. The Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) will be expected to:

Manage department records, files, and reports; maintain calendar, arrange meetings, organize workflow, set priorities, meet deadlines, compile data and information, answer phones and requests.
:
Interact with public, department offices, chairs, faculty, students, administrative and support personnel face to face, by phone, email, teams, or other institutionally mandated form.
:
Handle paperwork related to scheduling, course descriptions, book orders, annual reports, and assist students and faculty with Registrar's office paperwork.
:
Upload the departmental schedule of classes; create scheduling spreadsheets and tables as needed.
:
Maintain and update Program websites; review weekly for necessary updates.
:
Assist the Chair with tracking program expenditures.
:
Account for all inventoried equipment once per year.
:
Access data for student eligibility for recognition and awards; maintain and update departmental information.
:
Replenish office supplies as needed; order equipment for faculty and department.
:
Receive and distribute postal mail; manage departmental list serves and help with logistics for departmental activities.
Requirements:
Competitive Qualifications: The successful candidate must be reachable on the full-time, permanent Civil Service list for Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding), have held the permanent title of Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) in the past or be eligible to transfer into the title.
Non-Competitive Qualifications: Candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. There are no minimum education or experience requirements; however, candidates must pass a keyboarding test demonstrating the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Suite
- Customer Service experience
- Experience working with diverse populations
