Billing Exception Processing Supervisor at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP)

ResponsibilitiesThe Billing Exceptions Processing Supervisor trains and supervises staff who analyze daily exceptions to the meter upload and billing processes to resolve issues affecting accurate billing of water and sewer customers. Key duties include: reviewing records for accuracy and policy compliance; performing complex calculations to determine correct charges; preparing correspondence in response to customer inquiries, billing disputes and appeals; interpreting eligibility for BCS billing programs;
handling timekeeping, discipline, and evaluations; and collaborating with other units on reconciliation and complex billing adjustments.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the supervisory experience described above; or
- A high‑school diploma or equivalent and five years of full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the supervisory experience described above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to any of the above, with the one year of administrative or supervisory experience required.
Only candidates serving in the permanent civil service title of Principal Administrative Associate will be considered for an interview.
