Within the larger scope of formal and informal learning of the Programs & Services Department’s Older Adult Services division, the Assistant Coordinator, Older Adult Services helps ensure the quality and delivery of programs and services to older adults across the borough of Queens.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Within the larger scope of formal and informal learning of the Programs & Services Department’s Older Adult Services division, the Assistant Coordinator, Older Adult Services helps ensure the quality and delivery of programs and services to older adults across the borough of Queens. In partnership with all Programming & Services Department (PSD) units serving Older Adults, including New Americans and Community Health, the Assistant Coordinator, Older Adult Services will be responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating innovative, impactful, and culturally responsive programs and services for older adult customers.

This position reports to the Coordinator, Older Adult Services and assists with the timely collection and accurate reporting of all program related data, including but not limited to program participation and activities, schedules, branch visits and reports to funders. In addition, the Assistant Coordinator of Older Adults Services provides technical and administrative support in all aspects of programming including preparing contracts, coordinating programming, hosting virtual programs and conducting outreach visits.

Content will include but is not limited to virtual arts and crafts programming (known as “Creative Aging”), in person art, history, cultural, reading and writing programs, coping skills and other science or health-related programs through in-person, virtual and hybrid programs using an array of technologies and social media platforms. The Assistant Coordinator will work with community library and program staff to share effective techniques and tools for proactively serving older adults and maintaining partnerships with organizations serving older adults such as senior centers, naturally occurring retirement communities, and senior living facilities.

Program sand Services
  • Alongside the Coordinator, Older Adult Services, develops and delivers a suite of in-person, virtual and hybrid programs and services across the QPL system.
  • Assists with the coordination, creation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services for older adults.
  • Works with community library staff, community partners and other stakeholders to develop innovative programs and services for older adults (e.g., intergenerational activities, virtual programming for the homebound, etc.) based on Adults/Older Adults Services goals and objectives, aligned with the Queens Public Library’s strategic plan.
  • Stays abreast of innovative ways to engage with older adults through technology and social media. Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates social media content and virtual programs.
  • Builds awareness of available community library services for older adults living in Queens.
  • Shares models and opportunities with colleagues through training and presentations and through regular communication with peers and supervisors.
  • Works closely with program coordinators and managers throughout the Queens Public Library system to coordinate efforts. Leverages existing programs to enhance and improve services in all libraries serving older adults.
  • Supports partnerships with other Queens/NYC-based organizations serving older adults.
  • Stays on top of the data to understand the shifting landscape of older adults in Queens.
  • Assists with communicating about older adult programming with other departments (e.g., Finance, Marketing, IT, Purchasing and Queens Library Public Foundation).
  • Collects and organizes other relevant program data (programming evaluations, surveys, etc.).
  • Provides coverage at program sites if needed.
Technical and Administrative Tasks
