Auto Mechanic B L1-2 at Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc.
Our Transportation Operations department is currently searching for an Auto Mechanic B L1-2. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair a diverse range of company vehicles—including cars, vans, trucks, and various equipment—while demonstrating a thorough understanding of automotive systems, a problem‑solving mindset, and a commitment to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, maintain, and repair a diverse range of company vehicles including cars, vans, trucks, and various equipment.
- Perform hands‑on repairs on systems such as drive trains, hydraulics, and coolant systems.
- Conduct labor‑intensive tasks: push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs; extensive walking, climbing, standing, driving.
- Operate in, under, and on top of all types of vehicles and equipment.
- Education/Experience
:
High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years of relevant work experience or a post‑secondary automotive certificate; or Associate’s Degree in Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology or related field. - Technical Skills
:
Knowledge and hands‑on experience repairing drive trains, hydraulics, and coolant systems. - Certifications
: ASE certifications in Engine Repair, Electrical and Brakes, or equivalent industry/major manufacturer certification. - Licenses
: CDL Class A required (must be able to obtain within 12 months);
Driver’s license; FDNY Certificate of Fitness (180 days); NYS DMV Inspectors License (180 days). - Physical Demands
:
Heavy manual labor up to 50 lbs, work in, under, and on vehicles/equipment, respirator approval per OSHA, ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays. - Response to emergencies by performing System Emergency Assignments.
