Automotive Mechanic in the Highway Department

The Town of Bethlehem Highway Department is seeking candidates for the position of Automotive Mechanic. Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

• Make repairs and rebuilds of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials;
• Make general repairs to trucks, power shovels, tractors, air compressors, bulldozers, cement mixers and other related equipment;
• Repairs or replaces electrical and electronic ignition systems;
• Mounts snow plows, sanders and auxiliary equipment and connects hydraulic systems to vehicles;
• Makes welding repairs to automotive and heavy equipment;
• Repairs or replaces fuel pumps, generators, alternators and starters;
• Make repairs to hydraulic and air brake systems including ABS;
• Understanding of, and able to repair on board diagnostic computer systems for both light and heavy duty vehicles;
• Repairs machinery such as clippers, stumpers, patching rollers, mowers, etc.

One (1) year of experience as a skilled automotive repairman.

Possession of a valid New York State CDL Class B Driver’s License, or possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License (Class

D) and must obtain a CDL Class B within six (6) months of appointment.

Must obtain a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Inspection License for light duty and heavy duty vehicles, (Groups 1 &
2) within six (6) months of appointment.
