Overview

The Head of GBS Product is responsible for the development of the vision, strategy, and multi‑year roadmaps for the GBS Product organization including Absence, Disability, Life, AD&D, Voluntary Benefits, Value Adds, and NYL Cross‑Channel Product teams as well as the Filing and Compliance functions. The Head of GBS Product leads a team of 20‑25 individuals and manages key business decisions tied to the product portfolio, working in partnership with Solutions, Underwriting, Pricing, IT, Distribution, and Operations to bring the product to life while ensuring an effective end‑to‑end service experience from quoting through claim.

The ideal candidate is a futurist but can map out and deliver short‑term wins, strategic but can get into the weeds, is able to partner, influence, and listen and has strong experience working in a matrix environment delivering optimal outcomes.

Core Responsibilities
  • Owns the development of the vision, strategy, and multi‑year roadmaps for the GBS Product organization including Absence, Disability, Life, AD&D, Voluntary Benefits, Value Adds, and NYL Cross‑Channel Product teams as well as Filing and Compliance functions.
  • Responsible for ensuring products are competitive in the group benefits industry while providing an effective end‑to‑end service excellence experience from quoting through claim.
  • Accountable to deeply understand broker, client, customer, and beneficiary needs, and to keep up with industry/competitor trends; incorporates findings into strategy and roadmap.
  • Leads and mentors a team of both direct and indirect reports of 20‑25 team members as well as matrix partners in the design, development, and delivery of new products and new features as well as maintenance of existing products.
  • Collaborates effectively internally sharing vision and incorporating feedback and needs for a holistic strategy.
  • Drives recommendations and provides user stories/requirements to matrix partners to deliver best‑in‑class solutions in the market, including connectivity, digital, operational processes, etc.
  • Responsible for making business cases, seeking organizational buy‑in and securing funding for key initiatives; prioritizes investments based on value, stakeholder need, and capacity.
  • Owns the execution of roadmap deliverables; ensures are delivered on time and budget; drives key business decisions regarding execution and roll‑out plans engaging key leaders and SME’s as needed.
  • Accountable for Product budget, inclusive of internal and vendor spend; evaluates spend for value and adjusts as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8‑10 years of broad product experience.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship building and team integration skills; experience driving change management in large, matrix organization.
  • Future mindset but willingness to jump in, own work, and make meaningful short‑term progress.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to be innovative.
  • Proven ability to drive results in uncertain and/or ambiguous environments.
  • Strong business acumen, with proven ability to leverage knowledge base to quickly come up to speed in new business areas.
