Position SummaryRobert Walters, New York specialises in permanent career placement in Legal, Risk Management, Compliance, Banking, Technology, Finance, Business Operations, Sales, Marketing. With offices in 31 countries, RW offers a global recruitment service to clients and candidates alike.
The Principal Consultant will be a senior figure within the team, working autonomously with clients, managing and developing strong relationships and creating new business opportunities. The Principal Consultant will consistently be a high achiever and top biller, winning new business. While not responsible for line management, they will act as a role model to other consultants.
ResponsibilitiesOur New York team partners directly with SME financial institutions, venture‑backed start‑ups in the New York area and household names in the banking sector. You’ll consult hiring managers, founders and CEOs helping them hire the very best emerging leadership talent in the market.
- Lead recruitment assignments that require creative applications of knowledge to specific recruitment challenges.
- Generate new business by networking, gathering market information and making business development calls.
- Organise and attend meetings with prospective clients.
- Develop existing relationships.
- Entertain clients within and outside core business hours.
- Manage and develop own client list.
- Send CVs to clients, either for existing roles or on a speculative basis.
- Develop and manage our client portfolio.
- Ensure the Robert Walters database accurately reflects all business dealings with clients and candidates.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant markets.
- Continually seek and identify areas for business growth.
- Represent RW at meetings with new clients to win new business.
- Manage and close complex deals.
- Uphold and demonstrate Robert Walters corporate values and sell our unique and value‑add services.
- Generate new business by networking, promoting the brand, gathering market information and making business development calls.
- Regularly sell print and digital advertising for roles in the relevant trade press.
- Identify opportunities to develop the wider business.
- Understand Robert Walters terms of business and negotiate fees (within pre‑agreed parameters) to secure new and retain existing business.
- Handle accounts and take responsibility for key relationships.
- Manage client relationships and expectations at all times.
- Problem resolution.
- Attain comprehensive knowledge of each client’s organisation, culture and resourcing requirements.
- Maintain and exceed SLAs in place with clients.
- Develop and implement short‑term and long‑term recruitment campaigns on behalf of clients.
- Ensure regular contact with clients to build positive, productive and long‑term corporate relationships.
- Professionally and effectively manage the recruitment process from start to finish.
- Write and place job advertisements and produce weekly mail‑shot literature.
- Ensure only high‑quality candidates are put forward to clients for interview.
- Provide market updates to clients and colleagues.
- Sourcing, selecting and matching candidates with appropriate positions.
