Product Manager, AI Business & Operations
Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and when that box with the smile arrived, wondered how it got to you so fast? Wondered how Amazon determines what to buy, how to buy, who to buy and where/how to place it close to the customer. If so OSS Buying is the right team for you. The OSS Buying team seeks a Product Manager to evolve our inventory optimization algorithms and vendor collaboration products.
These algorithms determine optimal inventory purchasing quantities, order timing, inbound routes, and placement across Amazon's global fulfillment network, maximizing shipping speed and minimizing costs for retail operations while optimizing supplier relationships through strategic buying patterns. We are at the nexus of Supply Chain and Retail. We use a plethora of inputs to make optimization decisions using linear programming models and machine learning algorithms to decide on order quantities, inbound nodes.
We own several products which interact with the vendors to collaboratively plan with them. We own critical metrics, reports that we regularly review with the leadership. We are seeking a product manager who can own the metrics, ideate on the next generation of the products, algorithms to improve the outcomes for our customers (instock/speed), vendors and company (cost to serve).
job responsibilities
- Own the roadmap for the buying and vendor collaboration products — from the optimization that decides order quantities, timing, inbound routes, and placement, to the products vendors use to plan with us.
- Partner with science and engineering to evolve the linear programming and machine learning models behind our buying decisions, turning business goals into clear product requirements and measurable outcomes.
- Own our critical metrics and the reports we review with leadership; define what "good" looks like and hold the products accountable to it.
- Ideate on the next generation of products and algorithms that move the needle on in-stock, delivery speed, vendor experience, and cost to serve.
- Write the narrative documents (PR/FAQ, OP1, 3YP) that align stakeholders and get investments funded.
- Work backwards from customers, vendors, and retail partners, and dive deep into data to root-cause movements and make crisp, defensible recommendations.
We manage millions of items across hundreds of product lines, representing billions in worldwide inventory. Our pioneering in-house systems leverage advanced automation and machine learning for inventory and supply chain optimization. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of large-scale automated inventory management systems while directly impacting Amazon's operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
