The position is located at the Child Development Center, West Point, NY.

- Serve as a CYS Assistant Director, assisting the supervisor in the operation of an assigned program in accordance with regulations and standards.
- Provide program oversight and accountability for staff performance, safety, and well‑being of children and youth in accordance with DoD, Army and local policies.
- Assist in maintaining DoD/Army certification for assigned program areas, helping ensure the program achieves and retains national accreditation or an Army equivalent.
- Provide appropriate staff professional recognition or disciplinary action, conduct written observations of staff during all hours, and evaluate employees based on established performance standards.
- Collaborate with other CYS Managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for all children and youth.
- Serve as a member of the CYS Program Plan Team to develop written strategies for program improvement.
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card required.
- Meet all qualification/eligibility/background requirements for the position.
- A one‑year probationary period may be required.
- Completed E‑Verify check.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at appointment.
- Complete a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
- Maintain the Crime Control Act requirements.
- Successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on‑the‑job competency.
- Travel to on‑ and off‑post locations required.
- Current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations per Army and DoD policy, including annual influenza vaccination.
- May be subject to rotating shifts between 06:00 AM and 06:00 PM, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Successful completion of a 4‑year college/university degree with a major related to the applicable CYS field (e.g., child development, early childhood education, home economics, elementary education, special education, or related behavioral science).
- 3 months of directly related work experience teaching children or in a similar capacity.
- Ability to select, train, and supervise childcare and preschool employees, family childcare providers, or other caregiving adults.
- Ability to develop and implement child development programs, including family day‑care, part‑day preschool, and before/after school programs.
- Ability to plan, organize work, analyze problems, collect data, and recognize solutions.
- Comprehensive oral, written, and analytical communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and proposals to diverse audiences.
- Minimum of 24 semester hours of major coursework plus appropriate work experience directly related to the duties described.
- Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of federal affiliation.
