Chautauqua’s Boys & Girls Club is the longest‑running summer day camp in the United States, offering programs for youth in second to tenth grade. The camp operates Monday‑Friday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2–4 p.m., and incorporates field activities, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, nature, crafts, team sports, music, and the arts.

Compensation

Starting at $20.00 per hour; experienced candidates may earn up to $23.00 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Create a safe, welcoming environment that supports the wellness of program participants, staff, and families.
  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures set by Chautauqua Institution and regulations of New York State for licensed children’s camps.
  • Act as the mandated reporter under New York State law.
  • Supervise health and sanitation systems for the program.
  • Train staff on blood borne pathogens, measles identification, and injury response procedures.
  • Support counseling staff with the social and emotional well‑being of campers.
  • Serve as primary medical contact during emergencies.
  • Provide necessary equipment, supplies, and training for all out‑trip activities.
  • Maintain a daily medical log in Camp Doc, including medication dispensation.
  • Review and collate camper health records for distribution to program staff.
  • Identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Report required incidents to the local health department per NYS regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all camper records.
  • Keep all records in compliance with national, state, and local regulations.
  • Submit incident/accident reports to Chautauqua’s Treasurer’s Office.
  • Utilize facility, technology, and equipment to deliver quality care.
Referral Program

Active employees who refer a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from the first day of work (or 30 days for seasonal positions) are eligible for a $500 referral bonus (subject to taxes). The closing date for seasonal positions is the last Sunday in August.

Schedule

Seasonal employment runs from late June to late August, primarily Monday‑Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with potential additional hours on evenings, weekends, or holidays as required. Schedules may be discussed during the interview.

Living On The Grounds

No employer‑provided housing is available; applicants should secure independent housing or commute.
