Position OverviewWe’re seeking a Junior Estimator to support our General Contracting team in NYC on ground‑up commercial construction projects. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented, proactive team player who wants to grow into a senior estimating role. You will assist in preparing accurate construction cost estimates, tracking budgets, and supporting the project team throughout the preconstruction phase.
The Junior Estimator will gain exposure to multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating closely with Senior Estimators, Project Managers, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure successful and profitable project planning.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in preparing detailed estimates based on drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
- Communicate bid requirements and scopes of work to senior estimators and project supervisors.
- Generate and maintain estimating logs and bid packages (Budget estimates, GMPs, Lump Sums, Cost Plus).
- Support senior estimators with quantity take‑offs, cost analysis, and estimate preparation.
- Develop value analysis to identify cost‑efficient alternatives within the scope.
- Liaise with subcontractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and clients for clarification and scope validation.
- Assemble and submit bid packages and proposals for various contract types (Lump Sum, GMP, Cost Plus).
- Review site conditions and contract documents to identify missing or unclear scope items.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to ensure general conditions and requirements are accounted for.
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals, verify scope coverage, and assist in risk management for potential scope gaps.
- Make recommendations to the Chief Estimator for subcontractor/vendor selections.
- 2–5 years of construction estimating experience, preferably with commercial or ground‑up projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Proficiency with On‑Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar estimating software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and work collaboratively.
- Site visits or walkthroughs as required to gather information for accurate estimates.
- Developed interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills essential.
