Facility ADA Assessor (City of New York)

Hours:

Full‑time – 35 hours per week.

Work Location:

30‑30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101.

Only candidates who are permanent in the Construction Project Manager title or who filed for the Open‑Competitive Exam #3042 may apply. Please include a copy of your Notice of Results, Proof of Filing, or indicate if you are permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with interpreting and applying the 2010 ADA Standards, Chapter 11 of the NYC Building Code, and other applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Public Buildings Advanced Capital Planning Unit to support the portfolio planning process through investigation and review of client needs and existing conditions, resulting in Advanced Capital Planning Assessments.
  • Conduct surveys of existing buildings and hold meetings with client agencies and DDC staff.
  • Review outside design consultants’ work and participate in interagency meetings.
  • Conduct weekly construction site visits to assess ADA/Accessibility compliance.

Authorization to work in the United States is required. The NYC Department of Design and Construction does not sponsor international employees. Applicants must meet all qualifying requirements at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A four‑year high‑school diploma or equivalent and five years of full‑time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 each year; or
  • One year of the experience described above and a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, construction, or a related field; or
  • One year of the experience described above and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect; or
  • A four‑year high‑school diploma or equivalent and a combination of at least two years of experience as described above along with the education described above, totaling five years of education and experience. Undergraduate credits may substitute for experience.

Note:

Candidates must specify each construction project they worked on, including a description, time period, type of work performed, and budget.

Driver License Requirement:
At the time of appointment, you must hold a valid motor vehicle driver license listed in the State of New York. A license with moving violations, suspension, or an accident record may disqualify you.

Assignment Levels
  • Level II:
    In addition to the above qualification requirements, candidates must have one additional year of satisfactory full‑time experience in Assignment Level I.
  • Level III:
    In addition to the above qualification requirements, candidates must have two additional years of satisfactory full‑time experience working in Assignment Levels I and II, or two additional years of experience as described above.
Preferred Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant design and construction experience pertaining to accessibility (not web accessibility).
  • Demonstrated expertise in both the 2010 ADA Standards and Chapter 11 of the NYC Building Code.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences, both in writing and verbally.
  • Capacity to work both collaboratively and independently, interchangeably.
