Clayton & Lee brings interior design and construction together to deliver high-end residential projects. We're seeking a Senior Interior Design & Construction Project Manager to lead projects from design development through construction, installation and closeout.
This role is ideal for someone with real expertise on both sides of a project. You're fluent in finishes, millwork, furnishings and design intent, and equally comfortable with trades, sequencing and the realities of the jobsite.
You'll run client and site meetings, manage contractors, subcontractors, vendors and fabricators, and oversee drawings, selections and submittals. You'll own your projects and be accountable for their schedule, budget, quality and client experience, making sure everyone meets Clayton & Lee's standards for detail and design integrity.
Core responsibilities Interior design and design coordination- Work with the design team through design development on space plans, finish selections, millwork, lighting and furnishings
- Prepare and revise drawings in AutoCAD, including plans, elevations and millwork details
- Review architectural and interior design drawings for coordination and constructability
- Review shop drawings, product data and samples to confirm they match design intent
- Manage FF&E procurement, delivery, receiving and installation
- Lead projects from mobilization through construction, installation and closeout
- Run client and site meetings, issue meeting notes and follow up on action items
- Supervise site leads and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, vendors, fabricators and installers
- Create detailed project schedules from design through closeout, and keep them updated, tracking milestones, long-lead items and trade sequencing
- Plan and manage trade sequencing, deliveries and installations so work happens in the right order without delays or rework
- Walk jobsites regularly to check quality, accuracy, safety and adherence to design intent
- Coordinate with inspectors, local agencies and consultants on permits, inspections and signoffs
- Manage punch lists and project closeout
- Write clear, professional emails and correspondence to clients, designers, trades and vendors
- Manage RFIs and submittals from start to finish, with timely responses and clear records
- Prepare regular progress updates covering schedule, field conditions, changes and open issues
- Keep project documentation, logs and updates organized and current using Clayton & Lee's Excel project templates
- Work with the design team to resolve detailing conflicts, field changes and constructability questions
- Prepare and level subcontractor bids, and write detailed, complete scopes of work
- Negotiate subcontracts and manage agreements from issuance through execution
- Manage subcontractor performance to keep work aligned with scope, schedule and quality expectations
- Hold subcontractors to Clayton & Lee's standards for workmanship, safety and site conduct
- Review subcontractor payment applications and lien releases with accounting
- Develop and manage project budgets, proposals, change orders and purchase orders
- Support client billing and keep an accurate projection of cost to complete
- Own each project's schedule, budget, quality and client satisfaction from start to finish
- Follow through on commitments and keep clients and leadership informed of progress and changes
- Anticipate risks and raise them early, bringing proposed solutions rather than just problems
- Build a collaborative, proactive relationship between the design team and the field
- Uphold Clayton & Lee's standards for safety, professionalism and craftsmanship
- Professional degree in architecture or interior design from a US-accredited school.
- 5+ years of professional experience in a design-focused practice, with recent experience in private residential projects at small to medium-sized firms.
- Specific experience seeing through ground-up, high-end residential projects from design development through construction and closeout.
- Construction Administration experience required, including coordination of drawings, RFIs, submittals, field conditions and design intent through construction.
- Experience building project staffing budgets and plans.
