Job Description
Busy, high-end residential general contractor (with occasional commercial projects) looking for a highly skilled, detail-driven Working Carpenter Foreman to manage and execute renovation projects in Manhattan. This role is for someone who's as comfortable leading a team and managing subs as they are on the tools, making sure every detail meets exacting standards. You'll ensure timelines are met, budgets are respected, and the quality of work reflects our decades-strong reputation.
We'd love to meet you if you've got the chops to run your own crew — or even your own company — and want to be part of something solid, established, and respected in the NYC high-end market — without the hassle, headaches, or expense of managing DOB paperwork, high insurance costs, and all the other joys of running a construction business.
For the right person, this becomes one of the most trusted roles in the company — someone ownership can hand a job to and not think twice about.
- Lead and work alongside crews on high-end residential (and possibly commercial) projects
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, and inspections on‑site — sequencing the work, keeping trades moving, and making sure it's done right
- Communicate professionally with clients on‑site — answering questions, setting expectations on progress, and looping in the office on anything that needs their attention
- Keep a job moving against its schedule and budget, flagging risks early rather than after they became real problems
- Coordinate daily with the office — clear, two‑way communication is essential to keeping jobs on schedule and on budget
- Read and interpret plans, anticipate issues, and keep jobs running smoothly
- Ensure craftsmanship meets the highest standards
- Take pride in delivering beautiful, on-time, on-budget results
- Want to grow with a company that values integrity and long-term relationships
- Are a strong communicator — with clients, architects/designers, subs, and the office
- Stay calm under pressure and lead by example
- Think ahead — planning materials, tools, and resources before they're needed, not scrambling for a supply run because something got missed
- Work well as part of a small team — sharing what others need to know, not just handling your own piece
- Keep a positive, can‑do attitude when plans change or the day doesn't go as expected, and look for solutions rather than just flagging problems
Experience:
- 7+ years hands‑on carpentry experience on high-end residential renovation projects — able to work the tools, not just direct from the sidelines
- 5+ years leading and managing a crew on‑site, including sequencing trades and coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and inspections
- Read and interpreted construction plans and specs well enough to translate them into daily crew direction and catch problems before they became delays
- Ran multiple active jobs at once without letting pace or quality slip on any of them
Required:
- Organized and detail-focused, with a real commitment to quality craftsmanship
Compensation is commensurate with experience, plus bonus potential for delivering projects on time and under estimate.
Our schedule is full and growing — we need someone who can keep pace, not just show up.
