We are seeking experienced Construction Estimators to join our team and support our NYC School Construction Authority contract. Candidates with expertise in architectural, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing estimating are encouraged to apply.

This role involves preparing detailed construction cost estimates, evaluating change order proposals, and supporting construction claim reviews and cost negotiations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review detailed cost estimates for all phases of design and construction.
  • Develop quantity takeoffs and cost evaluations from drawings, specifications, contract documents, and proposed changes.
  • Review contract documents, RFIs, bulletins, and field records to validate proposed changes and support assessments of entitlement to additional compensation.
  • Evaluate added and deleted work, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Independently verify quantities using drawings, field measurements, daily reports, and time-and-material records.
  • Evaluate unit prices, labor rates, productivity assumptions, material costs, and equipment charges using relevant cost data and project conditions.
  • Verify overhead, profit, bond, insurance, and other markups against applicable contract requirements.
  • Prepare independent estimates and supporting documentation for change order negotiations.
  • Support construction claim reviews by analyzing submitted costs and identifying unsupported or duplicate charges.
  • Coordinate with project managers, designers, consultants, and contractors to resolve scope and pricing discrepancies.
  • Review consultant-prepared estimates for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support cost forecasting by tracking potential and approved changes and their impact on project budgets and estimates at completion.
  • Plan, assign, and review estimating work, as required.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in architecture, construction management, engineering, environmental services, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of full-time technical experience, including at least three (3) years in architectural, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing estimating, with the remaining two (2) years in technical construction-related areas.
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Preferred
  • Experience evaluating change orders, preparing independent estimates, and reviewing construction claim costs.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or comparable estimating tools.
  • Familiarity with construction cost references, equipment pricing resources, applicable prevailing wage rates, and historical project cost data.
  • Experience estimating work involving night shifts, restricted access, and phased construction.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
