The Job

Assistant Editors balance the requirements of a fast‑paced, daily news cycle with the post‑production needs of Original Series and Documentaries. The job requires an intimate familiarity with broadcast specifications, including video/audio file formats and codecs. Technical expertise in a post‑production environment is necessary to execute production workflows, troubleshoot issues and work independently. A keen editorial eye is also in demand to understand priorities and needs of production partners in breaking news scenarios.

Daily PREP

• File‑Based conversion & ingest of physical media to shared server
• NLE Project organization
• Video/Audio syncing of multi‑camera scenes
• Assembling a string out & building a radio cut

SUPPORT

• Music searching
• Addressing producer notes, including shot changes & font fixes
• Building credits
• Rendering & creating screeners

WRAP

• Prep for Online:
• Collapsing video tracks
• Organizing audio tracks
• Outputting & delivering

AFTER THE EDIT

• Media managing multiple shared‑servers for news & long‑form
• Archiving long‑form projects to LTO

CRAFT EDITING/CONTENT CREATION FOR ALL CNN PLATFORMS

• Elements, including VO, SOTs, Still‑Strings
• Interviews, including field and studio pre‑tapes
• News Packages
• Teasers for HLN social platforms

The Essentials

• Knowledge to conceptualize, execute and distribute post‑production workflows, including ingest, edit, delivery, archive and media management.
• Technical expertise in current and emerging post‑production trends with a keen interest in continuing education in this area.
• Skilled troubleshooter and problem‑solver with the ability to work‑around and solve time‑sensitive technical issues.
• Ability to manage time, multi‑task and prioritize appropriately in a breaking news environment.
• Effectively communicate to provide exceptional customer service to business partners.
• Flexible with schedule and availability

Required Technical Skills

• MAC OS, Windows
• Adobe suite, including Premiere, Media Encoder, Photoshop and Audition
• Conversion software, including Handbrake
• Media Asset Management systems
• Content Delivery / Sharing systems, including FTP‑based and cloud‑based.
• Slack

The Nice to Haves

• Passion for leadership and the professional development of others.
• Knowledge of VDI and cloud‑based workflows.
• Basic skill level in After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Color Correctio and Audio Mixing
