The Department of Dance () at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Doctoral Lecturer specializing in Production Management/Lighting Design. This is a full-time appointment with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service after 5 years. The position will begin Fall 2025.

Located on the 68th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan, the Dance Department offers students a rigorous, challenging, humanistic dance education housed in a liberal arts environment. The Department encourages curiosity, passion and developing expansive definitions of what it is to be a dance artist, educator and citizen of the world. Courses are designed to support students in becoming articulate movers, choreographers, communicators, leaders and successful graduates of the Hunter College Dance Department.

We provide an array of curricular and co-curricular research opportunities that are integral to the student experience. The Dance Department actively reflects and participates in the cultural and artistic diversity of New York City.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of and in concert with the Chairperson of the Hunter College Department of Dance, the Doctoral Lecturer (Production Management/Lighting Design) shall perform, in conjunction with the Technical Assistant and office staff where appropriate, the following duties for the Dance Department: develop and maintain detailed production schedules and budgets for performances, shows, and events; work with artists, faculty, and students, to determine lighting, sound, and other design requirements for Dance Department performances, shows, and events;

oversee backstage technical operations, crew, and equipment during performances, shows and events for the Dance Department; oversee and maintain inventory of stage equipment and supplies, determining equipment needs and assist in equipment purchase bids; maintain and care for the Dance Department facilities and performance spaces; oversee load‑ins, set‑ups, performances, and strikes in the Dance Department performance space; adhere to all safety and legal issues that may be involved regarding performances, shows, and events, including fire code regulations, OSHA safety regulations.

Teaching Responsibilities:
Stagecraft (fall & spring);
Production (DAN 42400) (spring) Crew (fall & spring); and related courses.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • ? Master?s degree, preferably in dance or theatre or comparable experience
  • ? Five years professional experience in production management, including in a supervisory role.
  • ? Demonstrated experience leading a production team, including supervision of technical staff and coordination of daily responsibilities, performance, scheduling, and production activities.
  • ? Demonstrated experience mentoring students in dance production, lighting design, and dance management.
  • ? Experience in lighting design and/or aesthetic aspects of production.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of all procedures connected with the technical direction of dance productions
  • Demonstrated ability to design lights for dance, and knowledge of dance as an art form
  • Interest and experience in working with students, running student crews, and training student crews
  • Stage management skills
  • Ability to create and execute technical production schedules
  • Proficiency in current production software, such as Vectorworks, Light wright, QLab and ETC lighting control systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safe practices for performing arts environments.
  • Proficiency in operating production-related equipment and machinery.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, professional staff, artists, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • A commitment to work in multicultural and urban education settings.
