Freelance Associate Knitwear Designer

We are looking for a Freelance Associate Knitwear Designer for a women's contemporary brand for a top fashion company. This individual will be responsible for creating fully fashioned knitwear and loungewear designs from conception to final product. The role operates in a freelance capacity with 3 days onsite and 2 remote days per week in the NYC office.

• Sketch and CAD in Illustrator. Create detailed flat sketches based on accurate construction and garment proportions.
• Create and maintain overview boards in Illustrator including creating color CADs for sales sample orders.
• Maintain accurate design chart in Excel and communicate with overseas vendors on sample status, ensuring they are delivered within required timelines.
• Track and organize development samples, safety swatches for hand‑offs and markets.
• Prepare samples and check‑ins to ready them for showroom hand‑offs.
• Prepare buy charts and trim pages (BOM) using PLM for hand‑off at production stage.
• Manage all trim approvals for production orders.
• Work with a Designer to create tech packs in Excel for design development, including sketch, spec, and construction details.
• Adhere to a Time and Action calendar.
• General studio organization, filing, and multi‑tasking.

• Strong Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multi‑tasking skills.
• Positive and creative, team‑oriented mindset.
• Good understanding of general garment construction.
• Some knowledge of PLM systems.
