Deputy Editor, Commerce

Daily Mail is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Editor to join our growing team, focusing on creating engaging, shopping-driven content, including both written articles and social video formats. This role will involve producing longer lead reviews, features, and other commerce-related content. The ideal candidate will have a strong editorial background, with a demonstrated ability to manage tight deadlines, provide strategic editorial direction, and handle high volumes of daily content.

They will assist with content planning and use data to enhance the accuracy of our testing processes, all while supporting our ambitious commerce goals across multiple vertices. Applicants should have experience in creating shopping-focused video content, and be as comfortable in front of the camera as behind it. The Deputy Editor will stay ahead of the latest consumer product trends, possess a deep understanding of affiliate platforms, and have the drive to grow Daily Mail’s U.S. Commerce presence.

• Editorial Leadership: manage ’s content operations, including editorial schedules, in-house and freelance assignments and overall production logistics.
• Oversee and guide editors and writers to ensure adherence to style guides and high standards of quality and accuracy.
• Content Editing:
  Edit a wide range of content, from product listicles and long-form research articles to explainer pieces, ensuring clarity, accuracy and SEO optimization.
• Freelancer Management:
  Oversee the team’s freelancer database, including acquisition, onboarding, pitches, assignments and budget management. Ensure smooth processes for contracts and payments.
• Strategic Planning:
  Collaborate with commerce, SEO and operations to plan and develop editorial calendars. Develop action plans for breaking news on consumer alerts, trends, new products and other relevant developments.
• Cross-team
  
  Collaboration:
  
  Work closely with Daily Mail’s central SEO and commerce teams to align content strategies and ensure cohesive content production. Facilitate effective communication across departments.

• Experience:
  
  Minimum of 7 years in editorial roles, including at least 2 years in a senior editorial position. Experience in product review, lifestyle, beauty or home content is highly desirable.
• Skills:
  
  Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
• Leadership:
  Proven ability to lead and manage editorial teams with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A self-starter with a keen attention to detail, strong follow-through and effective bookkeeping.

• Stay updated on commerce trends, digital publishing advancements, and industry best practices
• Share insights and learnings with the team, contributing to the ongoing development of commerce and content strategies
