Position: Technical Paid Costume Coordinator The Public Theater New York, NY US 12/15/2025
Location: New York

The Public Theater is seeking knowledgeable and experienced over-hire Costume Coordinators for its costume shop beginning in January 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a liaison between the costume design team and the costume shop to facilitate execution of design with ease.
  • Submit purchase requests for garments and pieces based on designs and design team requests.
  • Check-in all purchased items.
  • Prepare and send out returns in collaboration with the Costume Shop Administrator.
  • Serve as a costume shop representative during tech rehearsals and night coverage production meetings during previews.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, and QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a costume shop and/or with costume designers in a professional capacity.
  • Ability to manage working relationships with various personalities.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and highly collaborative work style.
  • Experience shopping and returning clothing for theater.
  • Strong organizational skills, budget management, and receipt tracking.
COMPENSATION

Compensation starts at $27.00 per hour, and is dependent on role and experience.

This is a non-exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

We are currently looking for dressers with availability beginning in January 2026, but candidates available after those dates should still apply if they are interested in future productions.

Dressers are hired on a show-by-show basis.
