Freelance Associate Technical Accessory Designer
Our client is working on a full-time Freelance Associate Technical Accessory Designer role with a top company with a focus on licensed accessories (handbags and SLGs) in NYC. The role requires 4 days onsite and 1 remote in midtown office. It combines design and technical design, and is a short-term contract that may lead to a longer-term role.
Pay rate is approximately $33-37 an hour based on experience.
Responsibilities- The Designer/technical designer will work directly with Design and cross‑functional teams to execute vision while achieving impeccable fit, construction and design aesthetics.
- Partner with creative design team to achieve aesthetic while adhering to a production time and action calendar.
- Collaborate with the Design Director and cross‑functional partners to land on appropriate fit and functional intent for each product of handbag and Small Leather Goods design.
- Manage all technical requirements to develop and execute processes from product development to production.
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs including specs, tolerances, grading, detail sketches with construction/stitching and fit evaluation comments.
- Provide technical direction, internally and externally, on corrective actions needed to bring samples to brand fit and styling.
- Measure and evaluate handbags and SLG from proto sample through TOP samples.
- Maintain close partnership with production teams to maintain on‑time delivery throughout the pre‑production process and proactively monitor seasonal workload.
- Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills; team oriented.
- Handbag experience required.
- Ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous and creative.
- Creativity, technical capability and sensibility for merchandising; ability to sketch.
- Extensive knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim; familiarity with print design and manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design.
- Few years experience in handbag design.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, CAD and Mac computers.
