Academic​/Instructor Director and Choreographer Position Applause Theatrical Workshops, Inc

Applause Theatrical Workshops, the premier performing arts program on the Upper East Side for children ages 3-18, is hiring for Director and Choreography positions in our Performance Musical Theater Department.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has experience teaching kids within the performing arts, and can create a positive, friendly, and professional rehearsal environment.

• Staging and directing musical theatre productions
• Collaborating with the creative team to shape the artistic vision
• Working effectively with young performers of varying experience levels
• Leading rehearsals with clarity, patience, and encouragement
• Having a clear and concise plan on what each rehearsal looks like and how every young performer will be utilized.

• Creating engaging choreography that challenges our students to grow
• Teaching movement clearly and efficiently to young performers
• Collaborating with the Director and Music Director
• Supporting a fun, inclusive, and structured rehearsal process

• Have experience working with Pre‑teens or teens (4th - 12th grade) in the performing arts (at least 1-2 years experience)
• Have experience directing/choreographing Jr and full‑scale musicals
• Possess strong communication and leadership skills
• Are organized, collaborative, and passionate about arts education
• Musical theatre experience preferred

This is an in‑person, freelance position, that will be off during holidays/school breaks. We’re looking for someone that can commit to at least January 24th – June 1st and have after‑school availability on at least one of the following days Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday or afternoon availability on Sundays. Starting rate is $45/hr
