Ragan Communications seeks a reporter and content programmer with a passion for educating audiences.

We’re a media company with a service‑based mission, and we work to bring the best professional development and relevant news to public relations, external communications and social media professionals in a way that’s approachable, engaging and useful. We aren’t looking for scoops on which agency landed what account — we're looking for stories on how they pulled off that cool campaign, how to better measure PR efforts, what AI means for the future of our profession and what we can learn from all of the above.

In a typical week, you might write up an interview with the CCO of a Fortune 100 company, dream up a session for our latest conference, grab a coffee with the head of an agency division and scour news sites for the biggest stories with a PR slant for The Daily Scoop. You’ll work with a team of editors, writers and conference producers in a supportive remote environment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Write original, reported articles for PR Daily on a variety of topics that help PR pros do their jobs better every day.
  • Support content programming of Ragan conferences, webinar and related events through responsibilities including securing speakers, writing agenda sessions and moderating panels.
  • Strong reporting and networking skills, online and in‑person.
  • Participate in live Ragan conferences and other events several times a year.
  • Contribute to The Daily Scoop, PR Daily’s flagship daily series catching our audience up on the biggest news and what it means for the industry.
  • Write award profiles for Ragan and PR Daily’s robust slate of benchmarking programs.
  • Write sponsored content, including white papers, tip sheets and more.
  • Peer copy editing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
  • Incisive interviewing skills.
  • Crisp, clear explanatory writing with a friendly tone.
  • Communication skills with colleagues in a remote environment.
  • Curiosity.
  • A love of keeping up with the news.
  • Content aggregation.
  • A willingness to experiment and try new things.
  • A data‑driven mindset and experience with Google Analytics.
Location
  • Fully remote, but candidates must reside in New York Metro Area (NY, NJ, CT) or Chicago.
  • Travel required about five times a year to attend conferences, awards events and team‑building activities.

Please note:

We are currently unable to employ residents of California.

Experience
  • This is a mid‑career role requiring at least five years of experience in reporting and/or communications. At least two years of experience must be in B2B trade media.
  • 4‑year college degree required.
Benefits and Perks
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • 401(k) with generous employer match
  • Company paid disability and life insurance
  • Flexible work environment
  • Generous PTO and Paid Holidays
  • Learning and development program
  • Early Friday office close year‑round

How to Apply

To demonstrate that, please include a brief cover letter explaining:

  • Why you’re excited about this role at Ragan Communications
  • How your experience aligns with our mission to educate and inspire PR and communications professionals

Applications without a cover letter will not be considered – this helps us identify candidates who take the time to fully read and engage with our job description.
