Flyleaf Creative is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm that builds brands for non-profit organizations in the fields of arts & culture, criminal justice reform, education, and freedom of expression. Our projects encompass branding, web design, print communications, environmental graphics and signage and way finding.

Apollo Theater, Arts Center Lake Placid, Bard Prison Initiative, Hudson Valley Shakespeare, Huntington Theatre, Lincoln Center Theater, Longwood Gardens, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, St. Ann’s Warehouse, and Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center.
We are seeking a Senior Experiential Designer with 5–7 years of multidisciplinary professional experience. 2+ years specifically in environmental graphic design or signage and way finding is a big plus. In this role, the Senior Designer will be responsible for providing design leadership, primarily focusing on branding and environmental graphics/signage projects. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about design and excited to develop bold ideas within a small team who together make a significant impact on diverse, meaningful projects.
Ideal candidates should have:
- Interest in and/or awareness of culture, performing arts, literature, public policy, or an interest in learning about other mission-based organizations
- Strong conceptual thinking and leadership skills to communicate ideas clearly
- Comfort with working in highly collaborative team environments
- Flexibility to learn and take on new challenges and willingness to be hands-on and involved in all phases of work
- Requirements: Work closely with Creative Director to develop approach to projects and lead the design and development of:
- Branding systems, which may include:
- Research and discovery, logomarks, typographic hierarchy, templates, and branding guidelines
- Refinement or expansion of existing brand assets, generate collateral materials
- Environmental graphics and signage, which may include:
- Overall conceptual approach to the project from Schematic Design to Design Development through Construction Documents
- Support documentation: messaging schedule, location plans, graphic layouts of signage elements
- Researching materials, processes, and ADA/Building Code requirements
- Be accountable for effective coordination with all parties throughout the design process:
- Coordinate with architects, design consultants, and fabricators throughout project development
- Attend site visits to document site conditions or conduct preliminary field measurements
- Review production proofs, fabrication shop drawings, samples prototypes
- Oversee signage installation for quality assurance
- Demonstrate strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance and design ideas
- Develop well-crafted design presentations
- Closely collaborate with key stakeholders representing the Flyleaf Creative’s culture and point of view
- Manage Time and Projects
- Work with team to set appropriate schedules based on workflow
- Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines across multiple projects, flag scheduling conflicts early on
- With guidance, work within budget and time constraints
- Review work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance
- Contribute to RFP responses and studio growth initiatives
- Report to VP of Client Relations and President
- Travel may be required for site visits
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related discipline
- 5–7 years of multidisciplinary experience. 2+ years specifically in environmental graphic design or signage design is a big plus
- Outstanding creative portfolio showcasing:
- Playful, vibrant, lush designs
- Strong grasp of concept and ability to solve complex design problems
- Strong grasp of typography
- Aptitude for image-making
- Technical skills
- Examples of a presentation deck with some phase of design work as shared with a client, if available
- Experience with various aspects of signage design work is a plus
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Google Suite (docs, slides, sheets)
