Dental Assistant (Dental Office Assistant) – Building Service 32BJ Benefit Funds
Pay RangeBase pay: $61,060.47 per year
Additional pay: $2,000 annually for Spanish fluency
The Dental Assistant is responsible for chair‑side assistance of dentists and dental hygienists, preparation of the operatory and instruments, sterilization, and documentation in the electronic dental record. Additional duties include administrative tasks related to patient care and standard operations.
Responsibilities- Prepares the operatory, applies protective barriers and procures instruments and materials.
- Escorts patient into the clinical area and operatory.
- Obtains radiographic images as prescribed by a dentist.
- Assists dentists and hygienists with entering examination findings into the electronic dental record.
- Assists the dentist using 4‑handed dentistry technique.
- Escorts the patient to the appointment desk after clinical care.
- Pours and trims plaster models as directed.
- Prepares laboratory cases for shipment and monitors progress.
- Collects and transports soiled instruments to the sterilization room.
- Returns materials and procedural tubs to the supply room.
- Disinfects operatory equipment and surfaces after each patient visit.
- Monitors and stocks operatory materials to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
- Performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on delivery unit and evacuation equipment.
- Separates instruments, infectious waste and dental amalgam; washes, wraps and sterilizes instruments.
- Maintains sterilization equipment according to SOPs and monitors efficacy of autoclaves.
- Participates in dental center improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Dental Assistant Supervisor or management.
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Dental Assistant School.
- Detail oriented with ability to prioritize workload.
- Good communication, interpersonal skills, and team‑player attitude.
- Outstanding work ethic and reliable attendance record.
- Computer skills; typing at least 40 wpm.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English.
- High reasoning ability.
- Under one‑third of the time: standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Half to two‑thirds of the time: sitting, reaching with hands and arms.
- Over two‑thirds of the time: talking or hearing.
- 100% of the time: using hands.
- One‑third to two‑thirds of the time: work near moving or mechanical parts with moderate noise.
