Case Investigator, Bureau of Communicable Diseases
The Division of Disease Control’s mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through the identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases. The Bureau of Communicable Disease monitors and analyzes trends in disease data and provides consultation to the medical community and the public on the recognition, prevention, and control of over 70 infectious diseases.
Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To- Manage incoming telephone inquiries from healthcare providers and the general public.
- Build and maintain a directory of internal agency contacts and community partners.
- Assist with community outreach, public‑health education, and prevention initiatives.
- Oversee the monthly schedule of staff performing telephone triage of the BCD’s main number.
- Perform data entry of disease reports, case investigations, and outbreak data forms into a surveillance database.
- Liaise with commercial laboratories to ensure specimens are sent to public‑health laboratories.
- Compile and prepare materials for mass mailings to healthcare providers and patients.
- Participate in special projects.
- Assist BCD staff as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- High‑school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the first item.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
