Dental Hygienist

Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a full-time Dental Hygienist to join our team in Brooklyn NY.

• Under general supervision of the dentist, provide oral hygiene service and education to adult and pediatric patients.
• Remove plaque, polish teeth, screen patients, review oral health history and teach brushing and flossing techniques.
• Supervise and render dental hygiene care including removal of calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from exposed tooth surfaces, starting at the epithelial attachment.
• Provide adult and child dental prophylaxes, full mouth debridement, topical fluoride, and dental sealants.
• Perform full mouth periodontal charting for the supervising dentist to construct a periodontal treatment plan, including scaling and root planning provided by the RDH.
• Place and expose X‑ray films when requested by a supervising dentist.
• Takes impressions for study casts, removes temporary cement and restorations, or applies rubber dam when requested by a supervising dentist.
• Perform other functions permissible in NYS as defined in the Dental Practice Act that may be delegated by a licensed dentist, such as local infiltration anesthesia following accredited continuing education.
• Provide patient education, oral hygiene instruction, tobacco cessation and nutritional counseling emphasizing the relevance of oral health to overall health.
• Provide Head Start and ABCD visual oral health screenings.

• Minimum Education Requirement:
  Associate’s Degree.
• Minimum Work‑Related

  Preferred Experience:
  
  2–4 years.
• Graduation from an approved dental hygiene school.
• Valid New York State license to practice as a dental hygienist.
• CPR Certification.
• Valid NYS driver’s license.
• Preferred Specialized Skills & Knowledge:
  Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written).

$87,760.40 - $93,020.20 / annually (pro‑rated based on hours).
