Summary :

The Dental Director will assist in the development and implementation of the dental program. He/She will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative and clinical operations of the program, including staff supervision, and will provide comprehensive dental services to patients. He or She is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Dental Department and the Organization.

Clinical
  • Provides direct and comprehensive care, including oral exams, treatment planning, diagnosis, x-ray interpretation, operative/restoration, removable and fixed prosthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics/ root canal therapy, periodontics, and preventive education.
  • Refers patients to appropriate dental or medical specialties when indicated.
  • Obtains medical and nursing consultation when necessary in addressing total needs of patients.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records.
Administrative/Managerial
  • Provides consultations to CEO/Medical Director regarding the development (program and financial) of dental services at the Walton Family Health Center.
  • Helps Develop and implement dental policies and procedures in accordance with State, Federal, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assures the annual development, reassessment and monitoring of dental goals and objective that complement the Institute’s goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the analysis of dental programs for the Institute’s other dental practices.
  • Collaborates with IT staff to develop modules for the electronic medical record system specific to the dental program.
  • Develops a dental quality improvement plan and assures its integration into the organization’s QI Program.
  • Maintains and compile records and reports as needed‑ i.e. federal 330 grant, Health Care Plans, QI, etc.
  • Participates in dental staff recruitment, selection, orientation; ensure that all dental staff have current job descriptions, are aware of their responsibilities, and are appraised for their performance.
  • Provide in-service training program and other activities for continued growth and development of dental staff.
  • Coordinates and lead dental staff meetings.
  • Participates in committees as defined by the CEO/ Medical Director.
  • Remains current in dental practices and adapt new practices to the needs of the organization’s patients.
  • Determines needs for change in dental program based on patient and community needs and suggest plans which are consistent with the organization’s objectives, and within the availability of funds.
  • Assists CFO in the financial management of the dental program (i.e. fee schedule, collections, etc.)
  • Collaborates with social services department and other staff to provide community outreach for dental services and dental education.
  • Supervises ordering of supplies and inventory.
  • Supervises maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.
