Freelance Soft Goods Designer

Overview

Frank Darling is looking for a freelance soft goods designer to help us bring a long-dreamed-of project to life: a beautifully designed travel jewelry case that’s as thoughtful, functional, and elegant as the jewelry it carries. This is a project-based role to start, focused on design development and technical specs, with strong potential to expand into future soft goods projects (think pouches, storage, and other accessories) down the line.

If you’ve worked in fine jewelry, luxury handbags, or premium accessories and love obsessing over details like stitch placement, interior layouts, and materials that age beautifully—this one’s for you.

• Design a travel jewelry case from concept through production-ready specs
• Develop detailed technical drawings, measurements, and construction specs for manufacturing
• Collaborate with internal design and production teams to refine functionality, materials, and finishes
• Source or recommend appropriate materials, hardware, and interior solutions (rings, chains, earrings—we care about all of it)
• Incorporate brand feedback and iterate thoughtfully

• Proven experience designing soft goods—ideally in jewelry, luxury handbags, or premium accessories
• Strong technical skillset: ability to translate a beautiful idea into factory-ready specs
• A sharp eye for proportion, construction, and usability
• Familiarity with luxury materials, linings, closures, and hardware
• Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a small, hands-on team
• Bonus points if you’ve worked directly with manufacturers or overseen sampling
