Arcadis is seeking a Principal to join our Retail Studio. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment and work with other professionals on retail and mixed‑use projects. We are looking for a creative, organized, motivated self‑starter capable of working both independently and as part of a team. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills, and excellent presentation and documentation abilities.

They must demonstrate design, technical and management capabilities at a senior level, understand building and accessibility codes and standards, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously on various projects. The candidate should handle client accounts, lead the execution of complex and significant retail projects, manage a studio team and collaborate effectively with consultants, contractors, and clients.

• Partner with other studio principals to pursue business opportunities and develop client relationships
• Manage client accounts and the execution of significant projects
• Work with principals to establish strategic, planning and design visions for complex projects
• Support and collaborate closely with team and senior staff on design and technical tasks
• Communicate openly, embrace mentorship, and nurture the next generation of designers and technical staff
• Make proactive decisions on appropriate methods and standards for managing staff and executing work from proposal through all project phases
• Oversee overall design management and technical coordination, ensuring quality control and project execution with internal and external stakeholders
• Resolve design and technical issues within project scope and, when needed, elevate concerns to ensure project objectives are met

• Professional licensed architect preferred
• 20+ years of experience with a strong background in retail, architectural and mixed‑use projects
• Advanced master‑planning and building planning skills
• Excellent design and technical skills and experience
• Ability to advance a design through all project phases from concept to detail development to documentation and project execution
• Experience designing domestic and international, specialty and luxury retail, hospitality and mixed‑use projects
• Understanding of market trends in these sectors and ability to tailor designs to client business objectives
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Hand sketch capability is a plus

The salary range for this position is $133,000 – $220,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
