This designer will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across Chobani and La Colombe in engineering, product development, the commercial team, and the creative studio.
This is a hands-on senior role, with responsibility and accountability for leading, developing, and delivering structural packaging solutions under the direction of Head of Industrial Design. The role requires deep experience in FMCG packaging, high volume manufacturing, design industry tools and processes, including CAD, rendering, generative AI, rapid prototyping.
Working as an embedded member of the industrial design team, you will translate design intent into manufacturable outcomes while maintaining alignment with brand standards and consumer experience goals.
ResponsibilitiesPackaging Development & Execution
- Develop primary, secondary, tertiary packaging solutions including bottles, vessels, and folding structures
- Translate design concepts into prototype-ready CAD models and technical specifications
- Ensure all outputs meet design-for-manufacture and brand considerations
Dielines, CAD & Visualization
- Build accurate dielines and structural layouts for prototyping and production
- Develop 3D CAD models using Onshape (preferred) or Solid Works, Fusion 360, ArtiosCAD, Impact, or similar
- Produce renderings and visualizations to communicate structure, materiality, and design intent
- Maintain organized and accurate design documentation
Prototyping & Iteration
- Create rapid physical prototypes to test form, usability, and structural performance
- Iterate quickly across multiple concepts while maintaining high-quality execution
- Work closely with engineering and suppliers to validate feasibility and refine solutions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, product development, the commercial team, and the creative studio.
- Collaborate with internal packaging and plant engineers and external suppliers to align on feasibility and production requirements
- Collaborate with product development and other stakeholders to ensure successful alignment between product, business case, and potential design solutions
- Ensure brand intent is accurately translated into structural packaging solutions
Operational Support
- Support multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
- Apply sustainable design principles in material selection and structural decisions
- Contribute to efficient workflows and file management practices
- Mentor and manage seasonal interns
Qualifications
- Degree in Industrial Design, Packaging Design, or related field
- 6-10 years of experience in structural packaging design, preferably in FMCG/CPG
- Demonstrated experience creating and iterating dielines for production
- Experience designing both primary packaging (bottles, cups) and secondary packaging systems
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Onshape preferred; Solid Works, Fusion 360, ArtiosCAD, Impact, or similar)
- Proficiency in rendering tools (Key Shot) and Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong prototyping and model-making skills (paperboard, corrugate, 3D printing, etc.)
- Working knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and packaging production workflows
- Form constructive rapport with, and present to, Senior Leadership
- Strong technical execution and attention to detail
- Ability to iterate quickly while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Clear communication across design, engineering, manufacturing, and product teams
- Ability to follow direction while contributing proactively to problem-solving
