Summary

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician to be an integral part of the Physical Medicine and Rehab Service. The ideal candidate should possess leadership, energy, compassion, and a commitment to serve those who serve our Country.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who previously met the qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited residency programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and can only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, carrying, reaching, finger use, walking, standing, bending, working alone, irregular hours, and emotional resilience.

Duties

  • The Physician will be assigned to the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service.
  • Provide veteran-centered care, demonstrating outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills.
  • Manage outpatient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for various medical conditions, including pain management and rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate patient care with other specialists and services, including procedures like lumbar epidurals at nearby facilities.
  • Serve as a consultant to primary care and specialty providers, participate in pain clinics, Whole Health, and related programs.
  • Contribute to the VA's total rewards package, which includes competitive salary, performance bonuses, paid time off, retirement benefits, insurance options, CME reimbursement, malpractice coverage, and work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
