Staff Physician - Correctional Health Services (Float) – Various Location
Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY) invites applications for a Staff Physician – Correctional Health Services (Float). The role is based at Rikers Island and is part of the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H).
Pay Range
: $98.56/hr – $103.37/hr.
CHS delivers medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning to the NYC jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions receive mental health services. The service incorporates specialty housing units for serious mental illness, a 24‑hour on‑call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, and integrated re‑entry services.
Staff physicians provide primary care in jail‑based clinics, perform intake evaluation and treatment, and deliver emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians. The system promotes career/life balance by eliminating physician billing time and non‑clinical work outside of scheduled hours.
Responsibilities- Complete comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
- Evaluate the need for consult services and submit prioritized consults when indicated.
- Review all on‑island/off‑island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Implement consultant recommendations and ensure that the standard of care is met.
- Respond to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner.
- Familiarize with performance indicators (PI) and take appropriate measures to comply with standards.
- Request radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated, and interpret results in conjunction with the patient’s clinical status.
- Notify Urgicare for 3‑hour/EMS runs.
- Generate medical modifications as needed.
- Maintain clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and CME material.
- Provide clinical supervision for PAs/NPs, including co‑signing notes and medication orders.
- Adhere to CHS policies and procedures.
- Attend all mandatory in‑services.
- Comply with and maintain Employee Health requirements.
This position is located on Rikers Island.
