This is an hourly paid position – salary $95.57 per hour (part‑time, 35 hours per week).
OverviewThe Bureau of TB Control seeks a City Medical Specialist to report to the Director of Medical Affairs and to see patients in TB clinics, perform medical consultations, and participate in case management and contact investigation teams.
Responsibilities- Perform histories and physicals, evaluate laboratory, microbiologic, and radiologic data to determine if a patient needs TB treatment.
- Supervise or formulate medical treatments and interventions, including complex regimens for drug‑resistant and multidrug‑resistant TB.
- Monitor and ensure patient compliance during treatment.
- Implement patient‑care protocols for latent TB infection or active TB disease in BTBC chest centers.
- Perform systematic reviews of patient cases and contact investigations as part of the case‑management team.
- Participate in contact investigations and evaluate clients for disease or preventive therapy.
- Act as consultant to community doctors and other healthcare providers in all aspects of tuberculosis.
- Attend conferences, symposiums, seminars, and meetings as appropriate.
- Write standard and special reports as assigned.
- Participate in agency‑wide emergency response activities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Licensed to practice medicine in New York State.
- Board certification in pulmonary or infectious disease, with a specialty in internal medicine, pediatrics, or family practice medicine.

To be assigned to Assignment Level II: one year of satisfactory experience in the specialty area.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III: additional qualifications including a Master’s degree in Public Health (or equivalent) and at least two years of experience in epidemiology (or equivalent). Board certification or eligibility may substitute one year of experience.
To be assigned to Assignment Level IV: completion of an approved residency plus three years experience in an area such as internal medicine, family practice, or pediatrics; and board certification or eligibility in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or a related subspecialty; plus completion of an approved fellowship program and two years experience.
