The Department of Medicine and the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University seek to recruit an outstanding physician-scientist at the Assistant Professor of Medicine on the tenure-track level in the Divisions of Preventive Medicine & Nutrition and Cardiology. We seek individuals who will conduct basic research in the neuro-control of cardiometabolic function and health, teach, and participate in clinical care.
Candidates must have an established track record of basic or translational research in neuroscience and metabolism and/or cardiology, and a plan to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program that studies the neuroscience of cardiometabolic health.
The candidate must have demonstrated research acumen and have a history of obtaining independent funding. Ideal candidates will also possess superior clinical, teaching, and interpersonal skills. The candidate will help expand the research mission of the Divisions and will dedicate the majority of their time to developing independent projects and collaborate with the rich community of scientists at Columbia who study neuroscience, metabolism, and cardiovascular biology.
This individual will be expected to devote their clinical time to teaching and supervising residents and fellows on the teaching services of the Department of Medicine.
The duties of this position include:
Research/Education/Administrative: 70% Clinical, 20% Education, and 10% Administrative. Candidates should have outstanding research training and, commensurate with rank, leadership experience in biomedical research, as well as a clinical background in either Endocrinology and/or Cardiology. Candidates must also have performed research in some aspect of central control of metabolism and/or cardiac function. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to identify neural populations and circuits involved in the control of metabolic or cardiac function.
Candidates should have a documented record of outstanding scholarly achievement.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
MD or equivalent medical professorial degree. Must be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine, Cardiology or Endocrinology and must be eligible to practice in the State of New York and be a candidate to teach and supervise medical students and residents.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is expected to have a successful record of extramurally funded research, or to demonstrate potential to obtain extramural research funding.
