PositionSummary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Physician Assistant. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive medical care using sound medical knowledge and pertinent standards of care. The candidate will perform therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures on the designated inpatient or outpatient population and assume delegatory responsibilities assigned by the supervising physician privileged as Medical Staff of NYU Langone Health.
Job Responsibilities- Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department and clinical service.
- Educates patients and families to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns.
- Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies them per clinical standards and practice protocols.
- Performs delegated clinical duties effectively and efficiently.
- Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws outlined in the delineation of privileges.
- Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
- Prescribes inpatient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization.
- Maintains physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity required for responsibilities.
- Participates in the facilitation of group processes and works cohesively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, creative problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Considers previous PA experience or fellowship experience as preferred.
- Has at least 2 years of clinical rotation in various medical, surgical and specialty areas.
- Coordinates implementation of clinical research studies or trials, including patient screening, enrollment and data collection.
- Monitors and trends the cost‑effectiveness of the position, especially relative to efficiency and performance indicators.
- Assists in preparing, implementing, and evaluating research protocols when applicable.
- Collaborates with nursing and other disciplines on the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise.
- Uses evidence‑based literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes.
- Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established protocols for quality and performance improvement.
- Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals.
- Maintains PA board certification, annual CME requirements, and current expertise in the area of practice.
- Promotes professional growth and development in the clinical role.
- Acts as a respectful member of the health care team.
- Engages in designated activities related to professional PA practice standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s core values and incorporates them into performance.
- Facilitates patient throughput and efficient processes during admission and discharge.
- Ensures continuity of care across the continuum of services (home care, other facilities, appointments with MDs).
- Provides consultation to nursing staff about therapeutic regimens.
- Collaborates with attending physicians to maintain timely communication with families, house staff, other disciplines and ancillary services.
