A certified Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) will prepare instructional materials that cover all aspects of reading, writing, listening, and speaking for English Language Learners (ELLs) in assigned district(s). The teacher will follow Part 154 regulations and the best instructional practices.

  • Provide instructional support commensurate with Part 154 regulations, NYS Teaching Standards, and the Culturally-Responsive and Sustaining Framework.

  • Select and sequence culturally relevant materials from established curriculum.

  • Maintain appropriate student records and actively monitor the progress of English Language Learners (ELLs); collaborate with classroom teachers and serve as experts in the best instructional practices for ELLs

  • Establish relationships with English Language Learners (ELLs), their families, classroom teachers and other school personnel to help districts develop regular communication with parents about student progress and needs

  • Modify content-specific assignments appropriate for ELLs at K-12 grade levels; incorporate technology when appropriate to enhance the learning experience

  • Establish an efficient schedule which maximizes student contact

  • Participate annually in regional scoring of NYSESLAT exam and provide follow-up support for assigned districts.

  • Participate in the professional community by communicating regularly with administration and staff, assisting with problem-solving around student issues, and maintaining appropriate training and professional development.

  • NYS Certification in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • NYS Approved Supplementary Certification Pathway
