Job Summary

The Marist University Education Department seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Education to begin in Fall 2026. The candidate will shape the future of education by supporting and developing current and aspiring elementary and secondary teachers. We seek a dynamic teacher‑scholar with expertise in special education who will inspire the next generation of inclusive and responsive teachers.

The program develops professional educators who:

  • Are reform‑minded and inclusive.
  • Possess extensive pedagogical and technological content knowledge.
  • Can integrate academic content through immersive, inquiry‑based instruction.
Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in teacher education, consistent with the applicant’s areas of expertise and the department’s curricular needs.
  • Advise students on academic progress and NYS certification requirements.
  • Maintain an active research agenda leading to presentations and publications.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Participate in department, school, and faculty meetings and engage in key initiatives as part of a continuous improvement team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctorate in Education, Special Education, or related field by the fall of 2026.
  • Specialization in mild to moderate disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD, or other academic challenges).
  • A student‑centered approach in guiding the next generation of teachers.
  • Proven scholarship commensurate with tenure expectations of a “teacher‑scholar” model.
  • 3‑5 years of teaching experience in Pre‑K‑12 schools.
  • The ability to model culturally responsive pedagogical approaches across all courses and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified in Students with Disabilities.
  • Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities in Pre‑K‑12 settings.
  • Prior experience teaching at the college level.

University pays 100% tuition only. Eligible dependents may be reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department / School

The Teacher Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for Psychology, Crime and Justice Studies, and Social Work. The department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including elementary education, grades 1‑6, with dual certification for students with disabilities; birth through second grade add‑on teacher certification; and adolescence education, grades 7‑12, with dual certification for students with disabilities in eight content areas.
