Job Summary

The Home for Little Wanderers' Wediko NY program is seeking an experienced bilingual (Spanish) School-Based Counselor to support an elementary school in the Bronx.

The School-Based Clinician will be responsible for delivering program activities and direct services, conducting outreach, and handling administrative tasks such as documentation for billing and clinical purposes. This is a temporary part‑time position from mid-December through June 2026, working about 20 hours a week with an opportunity to increase to full time. The position reports to the Director of NY Programs.

If funding is secured, this position may have the opportunity to transition to a permanent role.

How You'll Be Making a Difference
  • Coordinates school-based programming and supports planning with school administration and management of services.
  • Responsible for a caseload of students, including maintaining attendance and educational progress, providing students and families with continuous feedback and resources to meet the needs and ensure academic success.
  • Provides individual and group mentoring to students on a weekly basis.
  • Supports and co-facilitates classroom sessions as requested, i.e. Advisory, Side by Side, and/or SEL curriculum.
  • Provides outreach to students and their families, including phone calls, written correspondence, and home visits.
  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff.
  • Provides crisis counseling, conflict mediation and social-emotional support
  • Completes screenings, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and provides referrals.
  • Facilitates use of evaluation tools for school-based services.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development opportunities.
  • Collaborates on and creates individualized plans to support student progress.
  • Participate in school team meetings as requested.
  • Plans and facilitate professional development workshops for school staff.
  • Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with school staff and other school-based partners.
  • Salary range is $30-$34 an hour.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree with a required focus in mental health/counseling (e.g., MSW, M.S. Ed in Counseling, MFT, etc.).
  • Licensed professional strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year plus of experience working within or managing programs serving youth and families.
  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Experience working with new arrivals and English language learners preferred.
  • Some knowledge of immigration resources and services preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work school hours.
  • Commitment to working from a strengths-based perspective.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice.
